Privacy Policy for TabX

TabX Privacy Policy

Last Updated: August 22, 2025

Welcome to TabX — a Chrome extension and service that helps you quickly find and retrieve knowledge across your open browser tabs. Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

Questions? Email tabindex1@gmail.com. Our official site is tabx.dev.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only what’s necessary to provide the TabX service.

  • Local Tab Content (non-PII) — never leaves your device.
  • Account & Subscription Data (PII) — only if you sign up with Google or pay via Stripe.

From the Chrome Extension

  • Page Data (local only): Titles, URLs, and visible text of your open tabs are indexed locally in your browser for search. This content is never sent to our servers.
  • Extension Storage: Session tokens, trial status, and your recent searches are stored in Chrome’s local storage.

From the Backend Service

  • Account Data: When you sign in with Google OAuth, we receive your basic profile (name, email, profile picture) and exchange it for a secure session token (JWT).
  • Search History (optional sync): If enabled, recent queries and selected results are synced to our backend to provide cross‑device access.
  • Trial & License Data: A randomly generated ID (UUID), install date, and subscription status are tracked to manage free trials and Pro access.
  • Payments: We use Stripe to process payments. We never store your credit card details; Stripe handles them securely.

Automatically Collected

  • Logs: When you connect to our servers, we may log IP addresses and device/browser metadata for security and debugging.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information collected to:

  • Provide the search and indexing features inside the extension.
  • Personalize your experience and communicate with you effectively.
  • Send you important information regarding your account, updates, and communication.
  • Manage free trials, subscriptions, and Stripe billing.
  • Sync search history across devices (if you opt in).
  • Maintain authentication and account sessions.
  • Improve reliability, fix bugs, and enhance user experience.

We do not sell or rent your personal data.

3. How We Share Information

We share data only with trusted third parties necessary to operate TabX:

  • Google (OAuth login) — to authenticate your account.
  • Stripe (payments) — to securely process your subscription.
  • MongoDB Atlas — for secure database storage of account and trial data.

We may also share limited data if required by law or to protect our rights and users’ safety.

4. Data Storage & Security

  • Indexed tab content stays on your device.
  • Server‑side data (account info, search history, subscription status) is stored in MongoDB Atlas with industry‑standard encryption.
  • WebSocket sessions and JWTs are secured with HTTPS/TLS.
  • We follow best practices to prevent unauthorized access.

5. Compliance & Law Enforcement

TabX complies with applicable data protection laws, including the EU GDPR, US state and federal laws, and Indian data protection laws. We will only disclose user information in response to valid legal requests, and we will make reasonable efforts to protect your privacy within the limits of the law.

6. Your Choices

  • Local Data: You can clear all locally indexed data anytime by uninstalling the extension or clearing Chrome extension storage.
  • Account Deletion: Contact us at tabindex1@gmail.com to request deletion of your account and all related data.
  • Payments / Refunds: You may request a refund within 14 days of subscribing to the TabX Pro plan that enables content matches and other premium features. Refunds are processed via Stripe.
  • Search History Sync: You can enable or disable search history sync at any time (if available in your settings).

7. Children’s Privacy

TabX is not intended for individuals under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If we learn that information has been collected from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on tabx.dev with a new “last updated” date. Updates are effective immediately upon posting on https://tabx.dev/pp. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
